Independetnly in each eye, a single bar is displayed sequentially at randomly chosen positions within a 1-D array of positions. The two bars are randomly and independently chosen to be black or white each time they are displayed. This stimulus has been used to probe the space-time structure of binocular receptive fields, where the bars are aligned with the preferred orientation.
