Ret_Wav_FBARS   This model simulates retinal wave activity using a sheet of amacrine units connected to a sheet of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) units. Traveling waves arise from the combination of three features of the amacrine units: spontaneous activity, local excitatory feedback connections, and a refractory period (Feller et al., 1997). When an amacrine unit crosses threshold, it sends input to the RGCs. When an RGC crosses threshold, it generates random spikes at a fixed rate. The model is able to capture a variety of properties of retinal waves observed experimentally, including wave shape, frequency and velocity.
